District suspends Manatee High football assistant coach Rod Frazier

Feb 08, 2013 (The Bradenton Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Interim Superintendent David Gayler has placed a Manatee High School assistant football coach and parent liaison on an indefinite paid administrative leave, effective Friday, according to Mike Barber, schools spokesman.

"Mr. (Rod) Frazier was placed on paid administrative leave today pending the outcome of the investigation," Barber said Friday afternoon.

Frazier is the subject of an investigation regarding allegations of misconduct with a student. Frazier was previously placed on a one-day administrative leave on Nov. 15 in the case. Bradenton police detectives are also reviewing the case, including a letter from the student, that they became aware of Thursday afternoon.

"I do know they had a file on the incident which a school district lawyer turned over to us and we brought it to our office to review," Chief Michael Radzilowski said Thursday night. "We have intentions of reaching out to the young girl and her parents to see if they will consent to an interview with us." Frazier's attorney Edwin Mulock said Debbie Horne, former professional standards specialist, told Frazier in December the allegations were unfounded.

"When she (Horne) left, it hung there," Mulock said.

Assistant Superintendent Scott Martin began looking at the case in January when the school received a letter with more information on the case, Mulock said. Martin has not returned phone calls requesting comment.

Mulock said the allegations of inappropriate contact with a student are rooted in "rumors and innuendos and emails and text messages and Facebook." "To my knowledge there was never any allegation of unlawful touching, just inappropriate contact," Mulock said. "From what I can tell, he has done nothing inappropriate whatsoever." Barber said Gayler is also reviewing a request for an emergency school board meeting on the matter.

"He has just been made aware there is a request for that," Barber said. Frazier has been an assistant football coach for the Hurricanes since 2001. He has served as parent liaison since 2006.
