True Internet launches cloud computing partnership
Feb 13, 2013 (Bangkok Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
True Internet, the online arm of True Corporation, is expanding to cloud-based digital services to cash in on the country's 5-billion-baht cloud computing market.
Under the partnership with Hatari Wireless and Cisco Systems, True expects to enter the corporate customer segment this year, said Vasu Khunvasi, general manager of True Internet.
"We aim to overtake the leadership position from the current leader, CS LoxInfo," he said.
True Internet expects revenue growth of 30-35% to 1.4 billion baht this year, said Mr Vasu, adding that the local corporate internet market is projected to grow by 15%, up from 7.5 billion baht.
Cloud-based digital service is typically offered at a flat monthly fee for companies adopting digital signage and information displays.
The cloud service platform could lower the initial investment cost by at least half when compared with conventional digital signage systems.
The average service charge for cloud digital signage is 5,000 baht per display per month, said Mr Vasu.
Wichai Wanavit, chief executive of Hatari Wireless, said the company spent 200 million baht to install Cisco Systems network equipment for providing cloud-based digital signage.
The collaboration is expected to help True rapidly increase the number of corporate customers and capitalise on the country's 5-billion-baht digital signage market, Mr Wichai said.
Tatchapol Poshyanonda, managing director of Cisco for Thailand and Indochina, said the use of digital signage in Thailand looks set to move in a more interactive direction instead of the current one-way communication pattern.
He said modern retail shops are likely to adopt digital signage to interact with mobile devices, using location-based marketing strategies such as sending digital coupons to a customer's phone when the person interacts with digital signage.
Mr Vasu said Cisco plans to expand its network coverage in 50 provinces by June to attract more customers.
