Feb 14, 2013 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Yesterday, LG Corporation (KSX: 3350) launched its VU Optimus Phablet in Israel, in a bid to challenge the dominance of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (KSX: 5930; LSE: SMSN) in the market. A phablet is a smartphone with a 5-inch screen. The Vu Optimus Phablet will sell for NIS 2,700 at retailers.

The Vu Optimus Phablet has a 5-inch screen with a 768-1,024-pixel resolution, 32-gigabyte internal memory, a 1.5-Ghz Nvidia quad-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, and 2100-milliampere battery. It is 8.5-mm thick and weighs 168 grams. It uses the Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, the company's previous operating system, now that Google has moved on to the Jelly Bean.

The Vu Optimus Phablet also has a Quick Memo app for writing text on pictures, documents, e-mails, and webpages, even when talking. LG is providing a stylus as part of the launch.
