We've got an election coming up; I believe it's April 2. Why couldn't we let the public decide whether they want to keep the building or let it go Since we already have the thing, it shouldn't cost any more than just putting it on the ballot. Let the people in Columbia, whether they love it or they don't, let them decide." Robertson replies: That ballot question would probably have to include the money to pay for it, because it's in private ownership now. Meanwhile, the deadline for placing items on the April ballot was Jan. 22. "The Feb. 8 TribTalk really hit a sore spot. I am a dog owner, and I let my dog loose. He responds to voice commands. However, if he does not, which is every once in a while, I take responsibility for what he does or does not do. For someone to inquire as to whether they can sue someone else for leaving the trash on the curb - - like they are supposed to -- while the dog owner does not have their dog under control would be laughable if it were not such a sad reflection of how we do not take responsibility for our own actions. At the drop of a hat, we call up lawyers and want to sue someone else for problems we cause ourselves. People like this who want to sue a homeowner because their loose dog got sick from eating trash out of a trash bag set on the curb sickens me. The courts are full of cases and litigation. Stop clogging them up and take responsibility for your actions." "I see where the geniuses at the University of Central Missouri have discovered a new prime number. They did so by utilizing the power of 1,000 computers and who knows how many man-hours. And now that they have a 13-million-digit number that would require reams of paper to print. My question is: Why "I'm just a little upset at my government for all of the ways it is wasting my money. As a lower-middle-class taxpayer, in my retirement, I still pay $50 a day in federal income tax. That's 365 days a year. I have been paying my fair share of income taxes for 65 years. I served two years in the military in combat activity. I saved some money throughout my life so the government would not have to take care of me in my old age. All that income was money on which I already paid income taxes, and now they want me to pay taxes again. I'm tired of all of these income taxes. The government should now exempt me from income taxes so I can spend a few years in riotous living rather than giving it to the government and allow them to do that." "I think it's interesting the city is putting a barrier down Providence between Douglass Park and the west side of Providence. It's almost as though they are trying to corral the wild. I was just past the southern part of Providence, in between the fraternity and sorority houses, and students are running back and forth across the road like they usually do. I just think it's funny we've got to make sure we control those blacks down at Douglass, but we don't think twice about letting all those white kids run back and forth across the street like they own it."
