F-Secure Personal Cloud Service Tapped to Power 'BT Cloud'

Feb 25, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- F-Secure said its Personal Cloud Service has been selected by BT to power 'BT Cloud,' a new personal cloud service that will enable millions of UK customers to safely back up and share photos, videos and personal files across their mobile, tablet or PC.

BT, a provider of communications solutions and services, recognized that its consumer broadband customers needed a solution that would safely store and deliver their music, videos, photos, documents and other personal content. It chose F-Secure Personal Cloud Service as it offered a truly device-agnostic user experience for PCs, Macs, smartphones and tablets and matched BT's cloud vision. F-Secure Personal Cloud Service also met BT's high standards of ease of use, security and accessibility. Most importantly, F-Secure has a track record of delivering carrier solutions for more than 200 operators worldwide, providing the foundation to forge a truly partnership.

According to a release, the results of a recent survey, conducted by GfK on behalf of F-Secure1, highlights the growing importance to UK consumers of personal digital content. Over three-quarters (78 percent) of respondents stated that the content on their devices was more valuable than the device itself, with 43 percent of those surveyed having lost valuable content in the past. Sixty percent of respondents are considering using a cloud storage, synchronization and back-up solution to protect their digital assets. However, when it came to looking for a provider of a cloud storage solution, 67 percent of respondents stated that they would trust their broadband provider to safely store and protect their personal content.

James Taqvi, head of connected home at BT, said, "Our objective is to offer our customers a superior broadband service. Customers told us they wanted help keeping their digital memories safe and unlocking their digital lives through easy access to their files. The idea for BT Cloud was born and we turned to F-Secure to help develop and power this new service." Taqvi added, "We wanted BT Cloud to make it as easy as possible for customers to store and interact with their content. We are confident that BT Cloud will not only provide customers with peace of mind, but it will do so with an friendly and engaging user experience." Samu Konttinen, executive vice president, customer & market operations, explained, "It's great to see our Personal Cloud Service being used to develop new services across highly respected global operators such as BT. Personal cloud services are rapidly moving from a supplementary element to a central tenant of any operator's new services strategy. Customers are looking for a company they can trust to safely store their photos and videos. They want to easily access personal content anywhere and they want to share photos and videos from their mobile, TV, PC or tablet without fear of loss, corruption or privacy issues." Konttinen continued, "BT Cloud is a compelling proposition to the UK market and I believe it has the power to augment and add value to BT's current consumer broadband offering. We are very excited to be part of BT's continued digital evolution." ((Comments on this story may be sent to [email protected]))
