Vitesse Semiconductor unveils portfolio of GE intellectual property cores

Feb 27, 2013 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation, a provider of IC solutions for carrier and enterprise networks, has unveiled a portfolio of Gigabit Ethernet, or GE, intellectual property, or IP, cores for integration of Gigabit switch functionality into Ethernet IC solutions for consumer electronics, gaming, printers, smart grid, industrial and other applications.

Vitesse's latest IP cores reportedly deliver essential features in consumer and professional audio/video markets where Ethernet networking connectivity is used to deliver digital information, such as audio or video data, directly to end points in performance-sensitive applications. The cores also support the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standard for low-power networking designs, the company said.

According to the company, the non-blocking Ethernet switch core IP is capable of content-aware TCAM-based classification, enabling affordable, fine-grained traffic differentiation for rich implementations of packet prioritization and security in networking applications.

Additionally, Quality-of-Service (QoS) and latency-sensitive applications have access to granular traffic management with IEEE 802.1Qbb priority flow control, dual-leaky bucket policing and multi-stage traffic shaping providing per port and per queue shaping on egress ports, the company added.

Two versions of the core available include VSC9953-01, 13 Gbps GE Switch IP, and VSC9954-01, 13 Gbps GE Switch IP supporting Audio Video Bridging (AVB) including the IEEE 802.1AS-2011 timing and synchronization protocol.

"Ubiquitous Ethernet connectivity is becoming a reality, from multi-player gaming and on-demand video in home entertainment consoles, to smart grid and industrial applications," said Brian Jaroszewski, senior product marketing manager at Vitesse. "Broadening Vitesse's IP core portfolio strategically aligns with our goal to grow licensing opportunities and expand our footprint into high-volume, adjacent markets." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
