St. Luke's expanding services in Warren County

Feb 27, 2013 (The Morning Call (Allentown - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- St. Luke's University Health Network Wednesday said it will spend $30 million over the next two years expanding services at its Warren Campus in Phillipsburg and throughout Warren County.

The health network, which completed the purchase of the former Warren Hospital about a year ago, announced that it will add radiology and outpatient physical therapy services, family doctors and specialists at the Warren Hills Family Practice in Washington and St. Luke's Hillcrest Professional Plaza in Phillipsburg. St. Luke's plans to add more outpatient services in other undetermined sites in Warren County as well, it said.

St. Luke's also will begin building a new intensive care unit in the hospital, which network executives said was a priority last year when they bought the financially weak Warren Hospital. Patient rooms will be upgraded too, it said.

In addition, the network wants to add physicians to serve underserved needs in neurology, cardiology and pediatric specialties. In the meantime, specialists already in the network will be sent to see patients in several locations in the hospital's service area in New Jersey, it said.

One practice that will not be expanded is maternity services, which were eliminated in a cost-cutting move by the hospital's former owners. Plans now call for Warren to provide pre- and post-natal care with baby deliveries to be done at the network's flagship hospital in Fountain Hill.
