Mobile tower radiation 'within permissible limits' [Ranchi] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RANCHI: A team of experts from the telecom enforcement resource and monitoring (TERM) cell said radiation level in Dhurwa and Hatia is "within the permissible limit".

The team was reached the city on Thursday to monitor the present state of radiation from mobile towers. Towers in Dhurwa and Hatia were monitored in the first phase.

The deputy director general of the TERM cell, JB Prasad, said, "This is part of our routine inspection. We carry out random inspections from time to time. Our findings have revealed that the level of radiation is within the permissible limits." Prasad, however, added that there have been several complaints about the towers being hazardous to health and that these should not be installed in schools and hospitals. But if the emission is within permissible limit, it is not hazardous to health in any way, he assured. Only 14 of the 356 mobile towers in the city, as claimed by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation, have received the no objection certificate (NOC) till date.

RMC is currently in the process of issuing NOCs to 48 applications, which are pending with the civic body. Naresh Kumar Sinha, public relations officer of RMC, said, "We have issued notices to all the mobile tower owners in the city following which we have received only 48 applications for the certificate." Rooftop Base Transceiver Station or mobile towers across the city has become a major cause of concern. People do not object to it. "Towers are put up only after seeking the permission of the municipal corporation and pollution control board of the concerned area," said a BSNL official.
