Connode AB announced that it has reached an agreement to deliver Connode wireless mesh communication solution as a core component in Swedish utility Vattenfall Heat Sweden Operations' deployment of remote heat meters in the Uppsala region in Sweden .
According to a release, Vattenfall Heat Sweden Operations is a subsidiary of Vattenfall, a utility company in Northern Europe. Some 8000 heat meters using Connode M-Bus enabled Wireless communication terminals will be deployed under this agreement. Itron smart head-end system software, already in production for the commercial and industrial meters, will be used to obtain billing information.
"This is a first significant step in our collaboration with Itron as well as a first deployment of an M-Bus enabled Connode 3 system. Multi-utility meter deployments, using M-Bus (i.e. electricity in combination with gas, water and heating) is a key requirement in many markets, so we see this as an important enhancement of our product portfolio, which will deliver outstanding operational performance to our customers," says Bjorn Lindblom, CEO at Connode.
The smart metering market in Europe is projected to grow 18 percent annually the coming 5-10 years. New functionality for smart metering is becoming more complex and the importance of reliable and cost efficient communication solutions will increase significantly. Wireless mesh communications technology is one of the prime alternatives due to its ability to meet current and future requirements on lifecycle cost and performance.
Connode AB is a supplier in Europe of wireless communication products for Smart Metering, acting as an OEM and technology supplier to system vendors active on the expanding Smart Grid market.
