TextPower Welcomes New Advisory Board Member Glenn English

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA, Jun 04, 2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- TextPower today announced the addition of former Oklahoma congressman and recently retired Chief Executive Officer of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Glenn English to its advisory board. TextPower is a leader in innovative text messaging software solutions for enterprises and vertical markets including the energy and utilities industries.

English, a former 10-term congressman, joined NRECA in 1994 as the fourth chief executive in the 70-year history of the association and retired on March 1. First elected in 1974, he supported rural America in his work as a member of the House Agriculture Committee, and as chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Credit, and Rural Development beginning in 1989. Over his 19 years leading NRECA, cooperatives have come to be seen as a powerful presence on Capitol Hill and the analysts have regarded electric cooperatives as an important force in Washington during English's tenure. In 1995 English successfully led the fight against the attempt by the Clinton Administration to sell the three Power Marketing Administrations, which would have led to higher electric rates for consumers. In 1998, English led the effort in NRECA to develop Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, which serves as the national branding program for electric cooperatives. In 2012, English announced that for the first time in NRECA's history, the organization had successfully become debt free.

"TextPower is emerging as a significant technology partner to energy and utility providers, driving communications for today and the future. I am very proud to join founders Mark Nielsen and Scott Goldman to continue to build on the excellence and innovation that TextPower is known for across the electric cooperative market," said English.

TextPower's SmartAlerts(TM) enable utilities to provide information about outages, conservation, usage, and even prepaid meter status via text message. Whether done automatically by integrating with one of its partners or manually using TextPower web-based apps, it allows companies to get the information directly to their customers when they need it most. Already deployed in dozens of utilities, the TextPower platform also allows utilities to receive notices from their customers that there is an outage in the field and integrate those customer alerts directly into their Outage Management Systems.

"It's an honor for us to have Glenn joining our advisory team and I look forward to his strategic insights and extensive network of relationships as we continue to develop and expand our smart grid solutions," said Nielsen. "His stature and industry expertise is a great addition and we welcome him in this new role." About TextPower, Inc.
