On-Ramp Wireless™ Expands Management Team by Appointing Experienced Sales Leader Dane Smith as EVP of Sales & Marketing

On-Ramp Wireless™, developer of wireless solutions for energy automation and M2M communications, announced that Dane Smith, an experienced sales and marketing leader with more than 20 years of experience growing sales for industry leading companies, has joined the company as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In this newly created role, Mr. Smith will drive On-Ramp's go-to-market strategy globally. On-Ramp's technology for M2M connectivity is a key enabler of the Internet of Things, which analysts predict will maintain a 23 percent annual growth rate over the next decade, reaching a predicted $948 billion by 20201.

Mr. Smith joins On-Ramp from SmartDrive Systems where he was Vice President of Worldwide Sales. As a key member of the executive team he wasinstrumental in growing SmartDrive from a late stage startup into a leading global SaaS (News - Alert) cloud application platform. Additionally, he transformed the sales and field operations team, helped to launch multiple new products, increased sales and closed several high profile new customers.



Prior to SmartDrive Mr. Smith was SVP Sales, Marketing and Business Development at hydrogen fuel cell pioneer ClearEdge Power, Inc., helping to establish them as one of the world's fastest growing clean technology companies. Under his leadership ClearEdge signed two of the largest deals in the history of the stationary fuel cells industry for the provision of clean energy and became the first fuel cell maker in history to receive an internally recognized safety certification from the Korean Gas Safety Corporation.

Previously, Mr. Smith was Vice President of Americas Sales at VMware and later the Global Vice President of Systems Integration and Outsourcing, and was a key member of the executive team behind that company's 2007 initial public offering, playing a decisive role in the development and valuation of one the fastest growing software companies in history. At VMware, he grew the company's Americas business from $200 million to approximately $1 billion in three years, and his team was responsible for the company's largest software enterprise lease agreements at that time. He also spent 13 years in various management roles at Sun Microsystems, which includes leading the company's embedded system and OEM businesses. In his spare time, Mr. Smith is involved in various non-profit initiatives that focus on children's issues globally, including his current role as an Executive Producer of the upcoming documentary film "The Drop Box (News - Alert)."
