DVI Selected By Modesto Irrigation District For Full Deployment Of EDGE® Grid Optimization Platform [Global Data Point]

(Global Data Point Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DVI, a Dominion company that offers technology to utilities to plan, manage and validate grid efficiency, announced today that it has been selected by Modesto Irrigation District (MID) to provide a number of advanced applications through the adoption of the EDGE® software suite. EDGE® will be used in conjunction with the existing Silver Spring Networks advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) deployment to provide MID with advanced Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) and Volt/Var Optimization (VVO) capabilities. EDGE® is a modular and adaptive conservation voltage management solution enabling utilities to deploy incremental grid-side energy management that requires no behavioral changes or purchases by end-use consumers. EDGE® provides significant and sustainable energy savings of as much as 4 percent through integrated planning, execution and validation of grid side energy efficiency management. "DVI looks forward to working with MID to be a key part of its grid efficiency strategy," said DVI Executive Director Todd Headlee. "MID, as with other utilities in the California market, is actively seeking solutions to optimize their distribution system for efficiency and reliability, both of which are cornerstones of the EDGE® grid optimization platform." "MID has been looking at a number of advanced applications to leverage the capabilities of our Silver Spring AMI deployment," said Tom Kimball, assistant general manager for MID. "As we considered our CVR and VVO strategy, DVI's patented approach of using AMI data for circuit optimization planning, management and control, and measurement and verification was a clear differentiator versus other solutions available on the market." "High voltage levels on the grid lead to energy waste, higher energy bills, and unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions. We are delighted to partner with DVI to enable Modesto Irrigation District to deliver their customers a proven way to increase energy efficiency without requiring changes in consumer behavior," said Anil Gadre, executive vice president of Products, Silver Spring Networks. "Conservation Voltage Reduction is a proven technique to leverage existing smart grid investments to lower voltage levels and save significant amounts of energy." (c) 2013 Global Data Point.
