Announcement Modified for $60 Million Funding for Research on Computer and Network Systems

It was modified to reflect changes in the creation date, current closing date for applications, description and the contact address of the funding opportunity.



The estimated total program funding available was cited as $60 million with a ceiling of $3 million for each award under this program.

This funding opportunity is open to any entity such as state, county, city, township and special district governments; Native American tribal governments and organizations; institutions of higher education; Historically Black Colleges and Universities; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities; nonprofits; for profit organizations; small businesses; eligible agencies of the federal government; and faith-based or community-based organizations.


A funding opportunity notice from the NSF states: "This program supports research and education projects that develop new knowledge in two core programs: 1. Computer Systems Research (CSR) program: This program supports transformative research in computer systems including: multi-core architectures, operating systems, middleware and run-time support systems, programming models and tools, storage and file systems, hybrid and embedded systems, web-based systems, data centers, distributed systems, parallel systems, large scale grids, wireless systems, mobile systems and sensor systems; and 2. Networking Technology and Systems (NeTS) program: This program supports transformative research on fundamental scientific and technological advances leading to the development of future-generation, high-performance networks and future Internet architectures. The scope of the program includes enterprise, core, and optical networks; peerto-peer and application-level networks; wireless, mobile, and cellular networks; networks for physical infrastructures; and sensor networks. The program also seeks innovative networking research proposals within application domains such as smart grids, compute grids, clouds, and data centers." The funding opportunity number is 13-581 (CFDA 47.070). The application closing date is Oct. 15.
