Delta Demonstrates EV Chargers With Smart Grid Communication Capabilities, as the Important Milestone of U.S. DOE's Smart Grid Research Project

DETROIT --(Business Wire)--

Today, Delta Products Corporation demonstrated their latest smart Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) 3-year program that Delta was awarded in 2012, targeting to reduce 50% of EV charging system cost compared to today's technologies. The demonstration was held in Detroit at the headquarters of DTE Energy, a nationwide utility and energy company. Delta showcased its new AC charger equipped with both ZigBee and Wi-Fi communication protocols, which is able to achieve real-time energy management. The smart EVSE is also considered an important milestone as Program Gate G4: 1st Generation Prototype Testing. In attendance were representatives from DOE, DTE, National Labs, Mercedes Benz, KVA, GM, Ford, Chrysler and Bosch.

Delta Products Corporation President M.S. Huang said: "Smart EVSE technology will better utilize existing power distribution capacity, reducing electric utilities price to their cstomers, which will help accelerate the adoption of plug in EV's. This advance also matches Delta's mission of 'To provide innovative, clean, and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow.'" Through Demand Response Load Control (DRLC), Delta's chargers can charge EV/HEV's when electricity is of less demand and cheaper based on the electricity load and pricing information collected from smart meters via ZigBee.

Delta also demonstrated their latest Site Management System (SMS), which monitors charging information such as voltage, amperes and charging duration in real time. The Delta SMS can also be integrated to the energy management systems of residential and commercial buildings to further enhance energy efficiency.
