Opelika Power Services Launches Residential Broadband Services Over The First All Fiber Network In Alabama:

OPELIKA, Ala., Oct. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Customers were already lined up last Wednesday morning when Opelika Power Services (OPS) opened its doors with new product offerings: video, voice and data delivered on a 100 percent fiber broadband network.

However, with our new fiber optic network OPS will now be able to offer a complete package of home technology. This new technology will make Opelika the first city in Alabama to offer our folks one of the most advanced, high-tech fiber optic systems in the world!" Among the many benefits customers can expect are the fastest Internet speeds available to consumers anywhere, the ability to download a TV show in seconds, and high quality video services with video conferencing in real time.

David Horton, Director of Opelika Power Services said, "OPS has provided the city of Opelika with 100 years of reliable electric service and now is embracing a vision for a brighter future with this fiber infrastructure. It's exciting to see all that we have accomplished in the last year. We are proud to be Opelika's Hometown High Tech provider of triple play services." In February of 2012, the city of Opelika partnered with The Motive Group to leverage their experience in Broadband and Smart Grid, to help accelerate the deployment of the fiber network. OPS and The Motive Group worked together to complete the fiber construction, which encompassed 376 route miles, 45,000 strand miles of fiber, and was built past every address in Opelika. In support of the new business opportunity, construction was completed on a new OPS office facility, a new headend facility, a satellite farm to bring in video signals, and a new warehouse.

Jennifer McCain, a Principal of The Motive Group said, " Mayor Fuller and the entire city council are to be commended for championing this project. They are true visionaries for recognizing the positive impact adding broadband services to their community could have on education, healthcare and overall economic development. The employees at OPS really stepped up, embraced the change and worked hard to build a system that will differentiate their community for the foreseeable future. We are fortunate to have played a part in this major community milestone." Opelika, AL is a community that cherishes and preserves its RICH HERITAGE while at the same time embracing all of the visions and opportunities for a brighter future for its residents and businesses. Opelika has proven that it is a city that has welcomed tomorrow, today. OPELIKA POWER SERVICES: PROVEN PAST, FUTURE FOCUSED.
