United Kingdom : AVANTI Communications wins the race to BUY Artemis Satellite [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Avanti Communications Group PLC has won a competition to buy a satellite from the European Space Agency. The company will take ownership of the Artemis communications satellite on January 1. It won't pay anything up front. It expects to offset modest operational costs using revenues from the project. The satellite has sufficient fuel to keep it operating until at least the end of 2016 and still have sufficient reserves to take it out of orbit at the end of its life.

"Artemis gives Avanti the opportunity to offer a range of new Ka-band services such as very high speed data transfer at up to 450 Mbps to commercial and institutional customers. Avanti also has plans to commercially develop the S and L-band payloads and navigation payload," it said.

"It takes us into some interesting new institutional markets with service from a new orbital position which may be impactful in the debt financing of a replacement satellite in future," Chief Executive David Williams added.
