EPIC Director Named a 2014 Charlotte Business Journal Energy Leader


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 20 -- The University of North Carolina-Charlotte issued the following news release: UNC Charlotte Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) Director Johan Enslin has been named a 2014 Energy Leadership Award Honoree by the Charlotte Business Journal. Enslin is one of 11 winners to be recognized for making the Carolinas a global force in the energy industry.



The winners will be recognized along with the first lifetime achievement award winner, Duke Energy's Jim Rogers, at the fourth annual awards reception, Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Mint Museum Uptown.

Housed in the William States Lee College of Engineering, EPIC was formed in response to the need from industry to supply highly trained engineers qualified to meet the demands of the energy industry - through traditional and continuing education. EPIC provides sustainable support to the Carolina energy industry by increasing capacity and support for applied research and is a highly collaborative industry/education partner.


Enslin was named director of EPIC in 2011 after serving as chief technology officer for the smart grid and renewable energy technology company, Petra Solar, based in New Jersey. He has combined a 30-year career with leadership in industry and universities in the US, Europe and South Africa and served as an executive and consultant for private business operations and as a professor in electrical and electronic engineering. Enslin initiated and managed renewable energy groups, executing multiple complex projects for U.S. and international industry in power system planning, power electronics and the integration of large-scale solar and wind power to the grid. Throughout the course of his career, Enslin has worked for more than 80 US, European, Asian and African utilities, governments and industries and holds more than 15 provisional and final patents. He is a registered Professional Engineer, Fellow of the SAIEE and Fellow of the IEEE.
