TIA Applauds Introduction of Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2014


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 9 -- The Telecommunications Industry Association issued the following news release: The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the introduction of the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2014. Introduced by the Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT), Ranking Member Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI), the Act would renew the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA).



TPA provides Congressional guidance to the Administration, which include negotiating objectives for trade agreements, requirements for consultations with Congress and other stakeholders, and the conditions for Congressional consideration of legislation to implement trade agreements.

TIA President Grant Seiffert states, "With an ambitious trade agenda this year, including the pending conclusion of negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, we are very pleased to see that Congress is moving forward with renewal of Trade Promotion Authority. The swift passage of TPA renewal will ensure that the U.S. telecommunications industry is able to take full advantage of future market-opening trade agreements and enhance our industry's global competiveness."
