Research and Markets: Multiformat Transcoding to 2016

DUBLIN --(Business Wire)--

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/73llbf/multiformat) has announced the addition of the "Multiformat Transcoding to 2016" report to their offering.

Multiformat transcoding revenue $600m by 2016

Multiformat transcoders are used for converting content from the format it is in, to the format it needs to be in to earn money from it. The transcoder market has been growing for several years with growth slowing in 2012. However, the use of HEVC compression beginning in 2014 is expected to improve growth rates over the five-year forecast. In fact, the greatest change to transcoder technology will come from the adoption of the HEVC codecs. All vendors are preparing with software upgrades to existing equipment or have plans for new HEVC transcoders. Some customers are already making the investment in HEVC equipment but most are sitting on the sidelines right now.

This report contains worldwide five-year forecasts by region for live transcoders and file transcoders along with a discussion of trends in the market including types of tanscoders, technologies, and a comprehensive look at the vendors who offer these products.

Key findings from the study includes:

  • Growth in the transcoding market, particularly in the live segment, has attracted new vendors in 2012. However, MRG expects some vendors to disappear in the future through consolidation because the market is unlikely to be able to support all of these vendors.
  • More vendors are now offering cloud transcoding options. Rather than installing on-premise transcoders, content and service providers have more options to use private or public cloud transcoding services.
  • The number of profiles output per input is currently stable among service providers as TV Everywhere content is mostly accessible only in the home. MRG expects to see profiles go up as content becomes more accessible outside the home and needs to be delivered over networks other than the service provider's own. HEVC-encoded streams will also add to the number of profiles processed.
  • Live transcoded streams are expected to grow to more than 2.5 million in 2016 due to the growth in providers offering live streaming and the growth in profiles required.
