New Mexico Electric Co-op Selects Fujitsu To Implement Broadband Network [ICT Monitor Worldwide]

(ICT Monitor Worldwide Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) New Mexico-based Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) has chosen Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. to implement a fiber-to-the-home project. The broadband network will cover 2,951 square miles in northern New Mexico counties Taos, Colfax and Rio Arriba.

According to Fujitsu, the project will lay the groundwork for KCEC's planned smart grid, which will feature advanced metering infrastructure and real-time detection of power outages.

Fujitsu notes that KCEC received $64 million in funding from the U.S. Rural Utilities Service.
