BRIEF: Olympia inventor of smart phone microscope launches next fundraising campaign [The Olympian (Olympia, Wash.) :: ]

(Olympian (Olympia, WA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 25--Inventor Thomas Larson of Olympia, a North Thurston High School and University of Washington graduate, has launched a fundraising campaign for the next version of a product that turns a smart phone into a microscope.

Larson's business, Cell Focus LLC, and the product he has created, Micro Phone Lens, is a plastic lens that has the same optical qualities of glass. It fits on the camera lens found on a typical smart phone, transforming the device into a microscope.

The first version of his product had 15-times magnification, but his next lens will have 150-times magnification.

He has set out to raise $50,000 for that next lens on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, but has already surpassed his goal with another 24 days to go in his campaign.

So far he has raised nearly $53,000 from more than 1,000 backers.
