Governor Pence Hosts Jobs for America's Graduates National Board of Directors Meeting

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) INDIANAPOLIS, April 10 -- Gov. Mike Pence, R-Ind., issued the following news release: Today, Governor Mike Pence hosted the Spring Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) National Board of Directors meeting in Indianapolis. Pence, who serves as Vice Chair on the JAG National Board of Directors, kicked off the meeting with a working dinner at the Governor's Residence on April 9.

"Indiana strives to boost the education and employment success rates of our young people, and Jobs for America's Graduates plays a vital role in making this goal a reality," said Governor Pence. "I thank JAG leadership and my fellow governors who serve on the Board for their passion, commitment, and willingness to do all they can through this exceptional organization to help our young people follow their dreams, improve their own economic prosperity, build strong families, and contribute to enduring communities as flourishing and engaged citizens." The meeting brought together Delaware Governor Jack Markell, who serves as the Chairman of the JAG National Board of Directors, as well as Montana Governor Steve Bullock and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, fellow Vice Chairs, and Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, JAG Board Member, to discuss JAG's current and future roles and initiatives. JAG President Ken Smith, Executive Vice President Dr. Jim Koeninger, Chair of the Executive Committee Tom Tauke, Treasurer Carolyn Warner, and President of the Business Roundtable and former Michigan Governor John Engler were also in attendance.

In 2013, Governor Pence worked with the Indiana General Assembly to secure a $6 million appropriation to double the scale of JAG-Indiana. Coupled with the Workforce Investment Act and other available resources, the investment is helping JAG-Indiana grow from serving 3,000 young Hoosiers in 60 locations to more than 6,000 young people through 118 programs by the end of this year. This impact illustrates the largest growth percentage in the shortest period of time in the history of JAG.

About JAG Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) is a state-based national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing dropouts among young people who are most at-risk. In more than three decades of operation, JAG has delivered consistent, compelling results - helping nearly three-quarters of a million young people stay in school through graduation, pursue postsecondary education and secure quality entry-level jobs leading to career advancement opportunities.
