Public make smart choice with mobiles [Eire Region] [Mirror (UK)](Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SMARTPHONES are more popular than ever - making up more than half of the handsets in the country, a report has found. The study by communications regulator ComReg said there has been a rise of 12% to 57% since last year. An increased dependence on smartphones was also shown by the amount of data being consumed, which rose by 50%. The report also found people are spending less on their phones compared to the first quarter of 2013. Whereas the average amount spent per month in 2013 was EUR 28, punters are now forking out just EUR 26. ComReg said the drop was most likely due to cheaper mobile phone plans.
