ADTRAN Accelerates Gigabit Service Delivery to the Enterprise

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --(Business Wire)--

ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), today unveiled the industry's first converged Layer 2 and Layer 3 Gigabit access router - the NetVanta® 5660. As service providers look to deliver higher-bandwidth, Carrier Ethernet and IP-based enterprise services, the NetVanta 5660 is the only Gigabit platform capable of delivering the voice, video and data required to support today's cloud computing, VoIP and streaming video business applications from a single device. ADTRAN's (News - Alert) leadership in the enterprise gateway, Carrier Ethernet switch and router markets, as well as the broadband access infrastructure markets, puts it in an unique position to help service providers bridge the capabilities of their high-performance access networks with a services delivery framework that can support the most demanding enterprise applications.

The new Gigabit access router solution redefines cloud connectivity and provides a compelling service extension to one of the industry's broadest Carrier Ethernet portfolios. This portfolio expansion reduces the amount of infrastructure needed at the customer premises by converging the functionality of an access router for voice and data - including enterprise Session Border Controller (eSBC) - with a Metro Etherne Forum (MEF (News - Alert))-certified Carrier Ethernet gateway. The integrated platform provides Gigabit throughput and offers the following features and benefits:

  • Scalable Bandwidth (News - Alert) Delivery: The NetVanta 5660 is a cost-effective option to support current network demands and can grow with the customer's future capacity requirements to symmetric Gigabit levels.
  • Flexible Connectivity Options: Where traditional solutions may force fit an Ethernet-only termination device and require an additional modem or fiber NID, the NetVanta 5660 provides multiple interfaces for fiber and bonded SHDSL or VDSL2.
  • Security and Reliability: The NetVanta 5660 provides multiple levels of redundancy for carrier access services with intelligent failover capabilities and the ability to auto-recover to original configurations.
  • Quality of Service (QoS): The non-blocking architecture of the NetVanta 5660 offers service providers greater QoS assurance. Customers can also prioritize and allocate bandwidth levels to specific voice, data or other managed services in order to meet specific SLAs.

"Miercom is impressed with the feature set, robustness and performance of the ADTRAN NetVanta 5660 router," said Robert Smithers, CEO, Miercom. "Hands on testing verified symmetric line rate throughput with five 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports active, and observed an aggregated throughput of 3.9Gbps. The ADTRAN NetVanta 5660 router offers remarkable performance, flexible connectivity options and a robust set of MEF-certified Carrier Ethernet functions in a compact 1U appliance."

"With the rise of Gigabit services in the access network, the NetVanta 5660 can be used as part of a unified and seamless network services framework. The solution helps to reduce the amount of physical infrastructure in the network and deliver a clear competitive advantage as the market for enterprise Gigabit services grows," said Chris Thompson, director of product management for ADTRAN's Enterprise Networks Division. "As enterprises look to outsource many mission-critical applications to managed and cloud service providers, ADTRAN is committed to helping our customers turn what is probable into what is possible as they seek to cost-effectively grow market share and satisfy customer need."
