Today, Software developer VMware has unveiled a new platform that will allow Communication Service Providers (CSPs) to virtualize RAN functions and integrate open source RAN architecture. The platform, Telco Cloud Platform RAN, will enable CSPs to completely modernize tech infrastructure ,and offer customers the 5G connectivity that is skyrocketing in demand.

VMware’s latest platform provides a number of features to instantly boost cloud performances and operational efficiency. With the assistance of the platform, business clients will be able to deploy virtualized and containerized network functions to scale across 5G networks. Along with that, the platform’s capabilities will enable clients to access cloud automation, new security configurations, as well as new pathways to monetization through 5G and edge services.

“A modern, open, and disaggregated RAN offers CSPs the single best opportunity to rapidly monetize 5G services,” said Sanjay Uppal, Senior VP/General Manager, Service Provider and Edge, VMware. “New 5G services rely on CSPs to be able to host apps at the edge, close to end customers. A virtualized and open RAN allows CSPs to deliver these new edge services to customers directly from RAN sites. With Telco Cloud Platform RAN, we accelerate the disaggregation of the proprietary RAN and enable CSPs to modernize their RAN so they can monetize the 5G services they deliver across their network.”

Customers interested in the full list of features included in the platform can visit the company’s official website, or download VMware’s latest whitepaper on RAN innovation.
