IBM Acquisition of Turbonomic Puts Cloud In The Spotlight

IBM (News - Alert) has announced the company has completed the necessary requirements needed to move forward with the acquisition of Turbonomic, a company focused on creating solutions based around managing applications and network performance.

With the acquisition being finalized, IBM intends to use the company’s resources to offer business customers new solutions related to artificial intelligence, automation, infrastructural observability, and network performance management. These new solutions will be based around Red Hat (News - Alert) OpenShift technology (recently purchased by IBM), allowing customers to take advantage of these offerings through a hybrid cloud infrastructure.

The recent purchases of both Turbonomic and Red Hat, among other purchases, demonstrates IBM’s commitment to ensuring cloud is solidified as the future of business networking. Competition is skyrocketing across the industry, putting pressure on IBM to maintain its status as one of the leading producers of cloud-based technology and solutions. Even with Google (News - Alert) and Amazon in the mix, IBM is in a solid position to take on the most serious competitors with a laser focus on the cloud solutions.

Though cloud infrastructure is becoming more widely adopted among business clients, rising costs within the space are making customers more cautious about which vendor to select. IBM is certainly doing well in developing a comprehensive cloud product ecosystem, but competition will likely remain fierce as the technology continues to evolve.
