Watershed and Workiva Launch Climate Solution in Anticipation of Federal Regulations

Changing climate conditions bring rising sea levels and more frequent and more severe extreme weather events. Governments around the world continue to propose new regulations to help combat climate change and its impact.

In the U.S., proposed regulations from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission require publicly traded companies to disclose how their operations affect the climate through greenhouse gasses. The proposed regulations change how corporations use information technology to manage their sustainability and ESG agendas.

To address the proposed regulations from the SEC (News - Alert), as well as those proposed by the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, Watershed and Workiva are in a partnership to provide joint customers with a unified solution for consolidated, audit-grade carbon emissions reporting.

Watershed provides enterprise climate management for public companies by using the latest climate science and auditor-approved methodologies to deliver granular, audit-grade carbon measurement, one-click disclosure and reporting and real emissions reduction in a single, intuitive, enterprise-grade software platform.

So naturally, Watershed complements Workiva's ESG reporting platform by allowing joint customers to aggregate Watershed’s carbon data into Workiva. Workiva's cloud-based platform simplifies complex reporting and disclosure challenges by streamlining processes and connecting data and teams to enable investor-grade, audit-ready reporting.

"ESG reporting is complex, requiring the ingestion, capture, management and reporting of financial and non-financial data from many disparate sources,” said Julie Iskow, president and chief operating officer of Workiva. “By partnering with Watershed, we will collectively help our mutual customers make better data-driven decisions for their companies and the environment.”

Through the partnership, joint customers bring together solutions and data into one reporting platform to ensure they meet their ongoing ESG disclosures, accelerate climate action and future-proof their businesses within.

“Together, we’re delivering a solution that both streamlines compliance and enables more actionable decarbonization as businesses work to minimize climate risks and maximize transition opportunities,” said Taylor Francis, Watershed co-founder.
