ISG Reveals Network Security Tops Enterprise IT Priorities Going Into 2024

A recent survey from prominent technology research and advisory firm Information Services Group (ISG) has swung an interesting spotlight on network security; specifically, modern network security presented as both an understandable challenge and an immense priority for today’s enterprise IT leaders. The study, drawing insights from executive decision-makers in global networking operations, underscores how network security is perceived and managed within the shifting IT landscape.

Below, you’ll find the long-story-short version of this ISG Network Modernization survey:

Its key findings include:

  • Nearly 60% of respondents listed network security among their top five challenges, with 21% placing it at the very top. This data reflects the growing complexities and evolving threats prevalent in the modern cybersecurity domain.
  • 75% of respondents identified network security on their list of the top five realistic infrastructure investment priorities for 2024, with 26% ranking it even higher.
  • Among various network security challenges, protection from cyber attacks was the leading concern for 23% of respondents. Phishing and social engineering, data privacy, identity and access management, and the implications of remote work followed, in terms of importance. (And rightly so.)

The survey also highlighted the evolving role of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), who now significantly influence network service evaluations and overall network strategies. This trend indicates a shift towards viewing networks as a critical component of cybersecurity.

“With CISOs leading network decisions, security is now integrated into core technology and transformation decisions,” said Alex Bakker, ISG Distinguished Analyst and co-author of this particular study. “The practice of involving the CISO early in the technology buying process can result in faster decisions and closer alignment between business, technology and security objectives.”

Average confidence in network security, outlooks on legacy infrastructure management, and the value of cost-reduction measures were all touched on by ISG, as well. More can be found here.
