Data disconnect cripples data-driven dreams. Despite drowning in information, businesses find themselves drowning in silos. Fragmented, isolated data sources leave organizations gasping for actionable intelligence. In today's marketplace, this data paralysis is not great for businesses. Robust data connectivity – the seamless integration of disparate streams – is no longer a luxury. It's a survival imperative for industry professionals.
CData Software, a provider of data connectivity solutions, shed light on the current state of data integration and outlined actionable steps for businesses to unlock the full potential of their data in 2024 in its recent research report, “Data Connectivity: The Missing Link for IT.”
According to the report, many IT workers find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer volume of technical resources needed to access essential data for their tasks, with 68% expressing a sense of burden. This sentiment extends across organizations, as 81% believe their colleagues share the same feeling.
The complexity is further exemplified by the fact that one in four enterprise organizations employs more than 100 different applications and systems to manage their operations. This intricate landscape contributes to a time commitment, with 41% of respondents dedicating up to 60% of their workweek to addressing data requests. Despite these efforts, the speed of data delivery often falls short of the demands of modern business.
The challenges in data management are further compounded by security considerations, which constitute significant obstacles to seamless connectivity. The top impediments identified by IT employees include stringent security controls, limited access to operational data and difficulties in data sharing. These factors collectively hinder the efficient provision of relevant data to other teams within the organization.
Acknowledging the critical role of data, decision-makers recognize the consequences of accessibility issues, with 68% admitting to disregarding important data inputs. Among these, the primary reason cited is the inability to promptly access information, indicating the urgency for addressing data accessibility concerns in organizational workflows.
“IT and other data professionals are challenged to keep up with increasing demand for timely data access from an exploding number of sources, while also ensuring the security and governance of that data," said Amit Sharma, CData co-founder and CEO. "Connectivity solutions that enable secure access to live and replicated data ease the burden on IT by providing employees with the data they need to make impactful decisions for their business.”
Here is what Sharma means about connectivity solutions. A comprehensive data connectivity strategy encompassing live and replicated data can solve more than IT headaches. It's the missing piece addressing security and data literacy concerns plaguing modern technology landscapes.
Strained by data requests, IT teams often neglect crucial information due to access hurdles. This impedes their ability to deliver holistic, real-time data views for meaningful business insights. Such oversights push organizations to the brink of bad practices, potentially jeopardizing operations, decision-making and overall outcomes.
