DISA Chooses HPE GreenLake for Unified Cloud Prototype

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced the Defense Information Systems Agency (News - Alert) (DISA), a combat support agency of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded the company a prototype Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement for the Distributed Hybrid Multi-Cloud (DHMC) prototype.

Under the agreement, HPE will leverage its GreenLake platform to develop the DHMC prototype. The goal is to streamline DISA's management of its diverse IT infrastructure and resources across public and private clouds, creating a unified hybrid, multi-cloud platform.

The prototype OTA will aim to revitalize DISA's infrastructure by integrating isolated and independent environments within its J9 Hosting and Compute division and turning it into a modernized DHMC infrastructure and services offering. As a result, they will see a reduction in IT footprint, costs, and management complexity.

The prototype’s ability to manage on-premises and commercial cloud services through a single hybrid cloud control plane ensures support for multi-tenancy, virtual private clouds, and robust data privacy and protection through a zero-trust architecture.

With support from trusted partner Iron Bow Technologies, HPE will assist DISA in testing and validating the advanced capabilities of HPE GreenLake private cloud solutions. The prototype deployments will take place in DISA data centers located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and Ogden, Utah.

HPE GreenLake's platform will provide full visibility into multiple commercial cloud service providers, enabling unified management through a single pane of glass.

By enhancing communication and application deployment agility, including the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, DISA aims to use the prototype to ensure mission-critical outcomes for warfighters in real-time, global operations.

“We’re honored that DISA has selected HPE to develop this innovative prototype and with a successful completion, HPE GreenLake will have the opportunity to be the secure hybrid, multi-cloud platform where DISA can deliver innovative managed services to the agencies it supports,” said Fidelma Russo, executive vice president and general manager of hybrid cloud and chief technology officer, HPE. “With this visionary project, and the eventual potential to deliver a sovereign cloud for DISA, HPE continues to expand upon its hybrid cloud leadership and solutions with HPE GreenLake.”
