Expanding Connectivity: e& is Partnering with Cato Networks to Support Global Enterprise Customers

By Alex Passett, Editor  |  May 21, 2024

When I’ve previously covered global telco technologies group etisalat by e& (or “e · and”) – formerly known as Etisalat (News - Alert) UAE (United Arab Emirates) – I recall describing how it was first known simply as an Emirates telephone company; as far back as 1976, in fact. In 2024, e& operates in 16 countries and is defined by how it accelerates leadership in digitalization, and how it provides premium connectivity via a holistic, digital-first approach that supports customers in this ever-progressive, hyper-connected world in which we live. (And in line with its e& rebranding, its team strives to “share&connect” and “innovate&transform” to embody what e& means today.)

We’ve also dedicated past coverage to Cato Networks, a company with the M.O. of “Challenge old concepts. Lead to a better tomorrow.” Aligned with Gartner’s (News - Alert) SASE and SSE frameworks, Cato Networks delivers secure, next-gen architecture that eliminates undue operational complexities, costs, and risks that have become associated with legacy IT approaches (which, in turn, have been based on disjointed point solutions in need of modernization). Cato Networks co-founders and COO and CEO, respectively, Shlomo Kramer and Gur Shatz lead their teams to positions where they can lend a digital hand for securing and optimally connecting users to any application, anywhere in the world.

So we’ve got e& in one hand, and Cato Networks in the other.

(You see where we’re headed with this, readers.)

Just last week, e& and Cato Networks announced a strategic partnership during International Telecoms Week (ITW). This move, according to the official announcement, will herald “the establishment of a new Point-of-Presence (PoP) within e&’s SmartHub data center in Fujairah,” which is the seventh-largest city in the UAE, just off the Gulf of Oman. As one of the UAE’s premier carrier-neutral data facilities, this e& SmartHub will be pivotal for organizations like Cato Networks and its enterprise customers, with a platform that can enable them to “tap into a world of enhanced interconnectivity and SASE innovation.” This makes a ton of sense; I’ve written before about how e&’s partnerships are often selective, and how flexible cloud architecture and connected solutions allow for maximized value creation in the digital space.

Furthermore, Cato Networks customers will benefit from SmartHub’s extensive ecosystem and e&’s broad reach to international markets (plus advantages like reduced latency and the like).

Nabil Bacoucche, Group Chief Carrier & Wholesale Officer at e&, shared excitement about this news.

“We’re thrilled to share in this partnership with Cato Networks,” Bacoucche said. “It reflects our dedication to building a connected world that nurtures growth for both businesses and individuals. Leveraging our extensive network of strategically located data centers, we provide access to a significant portion of the global population through top-notch infrastructure. We are enthusiastic about supporting Cato Networks with a competitive advantage by seamlessly linking them to international digital networks."

Kanwar Loyal, Vice President for Northern Europe & MEA at Cato, also had much to say about this partnership.

“Our partnership with e& provides organizations with unparalleled connectivity and a seamless network security stack, setting a new standard in flexibility and agility. Legacy network tools and hardware fall short of meeting the needs of modern enterprise clients, leaving them vulnerable to breaches. Organizations today require the efficiency and effectiveness of a cloud-native platform, delivering a comprehensive network and security infrastructure within minutes and hours. The Cato SASE Cloud Platform offers unmatched control and visibility, allowing a seamless connection from any edge to any service. This enables rapid time to value, increased operational resilience, and reduced risk and run costs,” Loyal clarified. “Cato is dedicated to supporting the Gulf region and recognizes the significance of collaborating with global leaders such as e& to deliver secure digital services in an ever-expanding interconnected world."
