Veeam Introduces Data Cloud Vault: Secure, Predictable Cloud Backup

Veeam Software, a provider of Data Protection and Ransomware Recovery solutions, announced the launch of a cloud-based storage service: Veeam Data Cloud Vault. The new offering provides enterprises with a secure, immutable, and encrypted storage solution for backup data, ensuring critical information remains protected against threats and data loss.

Built on zero trust principles, the service ensures that data is not only secure but also logically air-gapped from production environments, providing an additional layer of defense against ransomware and other cyber threats. It is also a fully-managed Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) solution hosted on Azure. This eliminates the complexities and unpredictability associated with designing, implementing, and managing cloud or physical storage infrastructures. Enterprises can bypass the technical challenges and unpredictable costs often encountered with cloud storage solutions.

“Absolutely certain data survival with assured data integrity is foundational to recovering from any data loss event, especially cyber-attacks,” said Phil Goodwin, research vice president, IDC (News - Alert). “Storing data offsite in an air gapped, immutable, encrypted vault can provide this data survival and integrity certainty. Veeam Data Cloud Vault enhances Veeam’s cyber recovery capabilities using Storage as-a-service (STaaS) delivery. Based on zero trust principles, Veeam Vault can give customers an easy-to-use cloud vaulting option fully wrapped in Veeam services.”

Another standout feature of Veeam Vault is its transparent and predictable pricing model. The subscription includes storage costs, API calls for writing and reading data in an immutable format, and egress charges in the event of a recovery. This flat per terabyte pricing structure prevents the unexpected bills that many organizations face with traditional cloud backup solutions. The service is designed to scale with needs, allowing users to adjust storage capacity as data requirements grow.

Veeam Vault also integrates seamlessly with Veeam Data Platform, supporting both direct backups to the Vault and hybrid backup strategies. It complements on-premises storage in a 3-2-1-1-0 backup strategy, ensuring data is secure, easily accessible, and efficiently managed.

“Eighty-five percent of organizations that suffered a cyber-attack last year are now using cloud storage that offers immutability, according to the Veeam Ransomware Trends Report 2024,” said Anand Eswaran, CEO at Veeam. “Storing a backup of your data offsite is an essential part of any backup strategy and it’s critical to rapid, clean recovery from an outage or a cyber-attack. New Veeam Data Cloud Vault meets this demand of enterprises by delivering an added level of data protection, cyber resilience, compliance adherence, faster recovery, and prevention against insider threats. These factors collectively contribute to strengthening the overall security posture of organizations without breaking the bank.”

Additional capabilities will be introduced to Veeam Vault throughout 2024. These enhancements will include support for colder and archive-class object storage tiers, optimizing costs for long-term retention of older backups. Tighter integration with Veeam Data Platform's single UI will also offer centralized management and monitoring of all Veeam Vault operations.
