ICYMI: Happenings in the Cloud

By Greg Tavarez, TMCnet Editor  |  June 14, 2024

On our Cloud Computing Magazine site, we write stories about how cloud computing benefit businesses of all sizes.

Companies traditionally relied on physical servers and bulky software, but the cloud revolutionizes this. With cloud computing, everything runs online. Servers, storage and even software become on-demand services accessible through the internet.

This unlocks a treasure trove of benefits: businesses can scale their resources up or down instantly, access data from anywhere and ditch hefty upfront costs. With that, let's explore what’s happening in the cloud:

Sysdig launches AI Workload Security

Sysdig launched AI Workload Security, a new feature of their cloud-native application protection platform, to help organizations secure their AI environments. This is important because AI workloads are more popular and are a target for attackers. AI Workload Security helps security teams identify and prioritize AI workloads, suspicious activity and vulnerabilities. It also simplifies the process of investigating and fixing these issues.

Hybrid Multicloud Deployments Expected to Increase

A report by Nutanix finds that public sector IT leaders plan to move toward hybrid multicloud solutions but are currently lagging behind other industries in adoption. The report highlights ransomware protection, IT modernization, and AI strategy support as the top drivers for IT infrastructure investments in the public sector. Security and compliance are the biggest concerns for public sector CIOs, and many are looking to hybrid multicloud for its data privacy and security benefits.

While there's high interest in AI, data privacy concerns and best practices are still being ironed out. The report also identifies challenges with managing multiple IT environments and data storage regulations.

Telefónica and Google (News - Alert) Cloud Extend Partnership

Telefónica and Google Cloud extended their partnership to help businesses move their operations to the cloud and develop new technologies. Telefónica itself is using Google Cloud for its own digital transformation and will be exploring new areas of collaboration in AI and automation.

Telefónica Tech, the company's digital arm, is expanding its offerings of Google Cloud services and its expertise in managing those services for other companies. Google Cloud is also working with Telefónica's venture capital arm to help startups grow using Google Cloud technologies.

US Signal to Acquire OneNeck

US Signal, a digital infrastructure provider, is acquiring OneNeck, a company that provides IT solutions through data centers. This acquisition will expand US Signal's reach by quadrupling its data center footprint, adding new locations on the West Coast, and extending its fiber network to new markets. Both companies believe this will give them the ability to better serve their customers with a wider range of services and a larger infrastructure. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2024.

Trend Micro (News - Alert) Secures AI-Enabled Private Data Centers

Trend Micro showcased a new data center security solution for businesses and governments using AI, called Trend Vision One - Sovereign and Private Cloud (SPC). This solution integrates with NVIDIA (News - Alert)'s AI Enterprise platform to leverage the power of generative AI while maintaining security.

This is important because while AI offers great benefits, it also creates new security risks. Trend Micro's solution addresses these risks by using NVIDIA's technology to analyze data efficiently and identify threats without compromising privacy or performance. This allows businesses and governments to securely use AI in their private data centers.

Our articles consistently demonstrate the power cloud computing brings to businesses. And as technology surges forward, cloud adoption is poised to skyrocket. This isn't just speculation – it's the inevitable future.
