The Future of Midwest Connectivity? US Signal to Make it So with New Cloud and Data Center Capabilities

By Alex Passett, Editor  |  June 20, 2024

Howdy, readers.

Let’s talk about US Signal right quick, shall we?

The long-story-short of it? US Signal provides well-recognized data center solutions, cloud services and myriad managed services to help businesses transform their IT operations. Drawing from a portfolio of colocation, IT infrastructure, endpoint monitoring, data management, disaster recovery and security services, US Signal’s data center and cloud offerings – in junction with its own secure fiber network – are strategically engineered to equip users smartly; of course, based on customer demand, emerging tech, ever-changing business requirements and regulations, and overall industry maturation.

And in regard to smart changes, US Signal dropped an announcement earlier today that’s quite big; especially for Indiana and the Midwest in general, which happens to be from where I hail.

This morning, US Signal put out a statement detailing how it is, quote, “nearing completion of significant upgrades” to its newly acquired Indianapolis North Data Center.

Why is this important? Well in addition to this being US Signal’s third data center in the state – this underlines the company’s objective to further upgrade digital infrastructure in the Midwest – the Indianapolis North Data Center, quote, “meets Uptime's Tier III standards, ensuring high availability and robust security measures, including storm and emergency response plans and multi-faceted recovery strategies. This SSAE 18-audited, HIPAA-compliant, PCI (News - Alert)-certified facility can serve as a secondary disaster recovery site or an integral component of a hybrid IT strategy. All critical components boast redundancy, with efficient cooling solutions maintaining consistent temperature and humidity levels.”

That’s a lot of punch, so to speak, for just one facility. Yet, US Signal is on a mission.

Upon completion of these upgrades, this 9,600-square-foot data center will reportedly feature the following:

  • 300 available cabinets
  • 24/7 staffing and multi-level security capabilities
  • 6+ miles of new fiber construction passing 500+ enterprise locations
  • A new roster of employees
  • Potential for deeper expansion in a later phase, possibly including the power and space required for 600 total cabinets

Also, when we say “phase,” to what does that refer?

John White, COO of US Signal, has the answer.

“Phase one of the upgrades is nearly complete, setting the stage for us to immediately activate our production capabilities,” White explained. “We are already seeing strong market demand and customers pre-buying space, which underscores the necessity and importance of this expansion.”

White added how US Signal “always strives to provide low latency, high availability services that scale” and how “as the demand for reliably secure cloud services grows in parallel with the rise of cloud-based technologies and advancements in AI, US Signal will meet all challenges confidently.”

It’d seem that this Indianapolis North Data Center is one brick in that challenge-meeting wall US Signal is building tall.

On a final note, US Signal is set to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 11 where local businesses will be invited to attend and guided tours will be held. (Plus exclusive giveaways, we’ve been told.)
