Happy Thursday, readers. I hope the week is treating you all well. It’s been great to have the temperatures drop 10 degrees Fahrenheit, at least here in Texas. (It seems fall is on the way).

With that, let’s accelerate toward the three-day Labor Day weekend by discussing Toyo Tire Corp.

Toyo Tires is a multinational tire and rubber products company headquartered in Japan. The company is known for its high-quality tires, which are designed for various vehicles, including passenger cars, SUVs, light trucks and commercial vehicles. Toyo Tires has a strong presence in the global market, with sales in over 80 countries.

The company is committed to innovation and technology, and has a number of patents for its tire designs and manufacturing processes. Toyo Tires is also a major sponsor of various sporting events, including motorsports and off-road racing.

Toyo Tires wants to stay ahead of market needs to innovate new generations of tires that address global trends. This includes transitions to EVs and overall improvement to performance and features to minimize environmental impact across fuel consumption, noise levels, wear resistance and load-bearing capacity.

To do that, the company needed to upgrade its high performance computing, or HPC, system. Therefore, Toyo Tires selected HPE to deliver its seventh-generation HPC system, which is three times more powerful than its predecessor, as a service through HPE GreenLake cloud.

Toyo Tires chose HPE GreenLake cloud to establish a scalable and managed HPC system. HPE Cray XD systems were incorporated to provide flexibility and increased access for designers.

HPE GreenLake cloud offers a modern cloud experience with managed infrastructure, consumption analytics, and predictable economics, streamlining IT and business operations. The HPE Cray XD systems deliver enhanced performance and higher density.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Toyo Tires and strengthen its digitized development with powerful HPE Cray performance delivered via HPE GreenLake cloud,” said Hirokazu Mochizuki, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for HPE Japan. “The latest solution provides Toyo Tires an optimal level of performance, in a flexible environment, to support a new era of innovation, with speed and efficiency.”

Toyo Tires worked with HPE experts successfully optimized one of its critical in-house computer-aided engineering, or CAE, applications. This resulted in a threefold increase in performance. The improvement allowed more designers to run simulations simultaneously and reduced the time required for large-scale design simulations. The optimization also boosted the efficiency of Toyo Tires’ deep learning inverse problem solver, which uses simulation data to develop cutting-edge tire designs.

“As the automotive industry accelerates its digital transformation and increasingly moves towards simulation instead of prototyping and performance evaluation testing, automakers are increasingly requesting mathematical models of tires which is a faster, more cost efficient and sustainable process,” said Tamotsu Mizutani, Corporate Officer and Division General Manager, Technology Development Division of Toyo Tires. “This requires numerical models of the tire and our new HPC system will advance this move towards digitized simulation."

In short, the upgraded system and boosted performance accelerate time-to-market for next-generation tires by processing structural tire data quickly and with greater precision. The expanded computational power reduces the time required for complex and parameter-rich large-scale design simulations that Toyo Tires utilizes to train its AI models.
