Little by little, it seems Pivotal is doing what it can to extend the reach of its Pivotal Cloud Foundry open source platform as a service (PaaS) offering that gives developers a fully featured, ready-to-use cloud computing environment. For example, last May Pivotal partnered with Mirantis to create an integrated IaaS-PaaS offering that merged Cloud Foundry with Mirantis OpenStack. Now, Pivotal is doing something similar with Cisco (News - Alert).

In particular, Pivotal has entered into a solutions partner and global reseller agreement with Cisco to deliver Pivotal Cloud Foundry to market alongside Cisco’s Metapod offering. The collaboration will see Pivotal and Cisco deliver a turnkey enterprise cloud platform that enables faster innovation.

Cisco Metapod is a production-ready, OpenStack-based, on-premises solution that is engineered, deployed and remotely operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This pairs well with Pivotal Cloud Foundry, which delivers platform capabilities that enhance developer productivity, while enabling operational excellence and providing enterprise grade security, scalability, availability and operational control.

The Cisco Solution Partner Program brings Cisco together with third-party independent hardware, software and technology vendors to deliver integrated solutions to customers. As a Solution Partner, Pivotal has achieved Cisco compatibility certification and can provide customer with around-the-clock customer support.
