Cloud Securities on Cloud Nine: Check Point Announces Azure Virtual WAN Integration

By Alex Passett, Editor  |  May 19, 2023

As digitalization and cloud-centric practices propel us into the summer of 2023, many businesses still grapple with the twists and turns of cloud migration. By no means is this an uncommon step on businesses’ paths, but that also doesn’t make it any less complicated. But hey, keeping-up-with-the-times operations will inevitably run into unique security challenges, thus necessitating unique security solutions.

Enter Check Point Software Technologies, renowned cybersecurity company and global cyber solutions provider. Check Point announced how it, in turn, is rising to meet today’s unique challenges via enhanced security offerings.

But, how?

By making its Next-Generation Cloud Firewall – now natively integrated with Microsoft Azure Virtual WAN architecture – ready to be generally available for businesses in need.

This native (and described by Check Point as “groundbreaking”) integration is set to provide advanced threat prevention and multi-layered network security across public, private and hybrid-clouds, enabling businesses to confidently cloud-migrate to Azure with superb operational efficiency.

The long story short? Great tools make for better, more secure, and overall smoother transitions.

“Microsoft (News - Alert) Azure Virtual WAN is a network-as-a-service that provides customers with a range of benefits that simplify networking, security and routing functionalities to drive scalability, cost-savings and improved performance,” acknowledged Principal Product Manager at Microsoft, Reshmi Yandapalli. “So, naturally, the native integration between Azure Virtual WAN and Check Point’s CloudGuard enhances and complements Azure Virtual WAN security, offering our customers centralized security in an intuitive and simple solution through the Azure Marketplace.”

Given Yandapalli’s role at Microsoft, that’s high praise for this offering.

This news also comes at the right time; Check Point’s recent research has reported a 48% year-over-year increase in cloud-based cyberattacks. To stay apprised of industry shifts and to maintain security during operation digitizations, securing infrastructures (e.g. with the Next-Generation Firewall) is a step in the right digital direction.

More technical Next-Generation Cloud Firewall and CloudGuard details include:

  • Threat prevention: CloudGuard supports myriad security use cases and includes Firewall, IPS, Application Control, IPsec VPN, Anti-Virus and Anti-Bot and DLP, as well as Threat Extraction and Threat Emulation for zero-day threats. Check Point network security solutions are rated with a high security effectiveness score of 99.7% for malware prevention and “the lowest false positive rate of 0.13%,” according to the latest Miercom benchmark report.
  • Integrated, cloud-native security: CloudGuard is built with the cloud principles of elasticity, availability, resilience and seamless support for traffic growth top of mind. (It’s easy to deploy into the Virtual WAN hub from Azure Marketplace, too.) CloudGuard also integrates with Azure Routing Intent for security insertion – a simpler, quicker, more consistent and scalable way to secure multi-spoke networks.
