Lightpath Introduces Next-Gen DDoS Protection

The digital landscape, as many of us already know, has created numerous opportunities for businesses, but it also exposes them to a barrage of cyber threats.

Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, in particular, are becoming more sophisticated and disruptive as they aim to cripple online operations with overwhelming traffic. We’ve seen the likes DDoS attacks on Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) where a massive attack used third-party servers to increase the amount of data sent to a single IP address by up to 70 times. There was also an attack in 2016 that took down many websites, including Amazon, GitHub and Visa, with an attack bandwidth of over 650 Gbps.

As a gamer, I’ve seen DDoS attacks continue to hit certain games with a heavily populated player base. For example, specific data center servers on Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV, have been hit recently, which affected players by disconnecting them from their servers. It’s still ongoing on random days.

To combat the evolving threat that is DDoS, Lightpath, a provider of fiber-optic network connectivity, revealed LP DDoS Shield.

Lightpath's LP DDoS Shield leverages cutting-edge technology from Radware (News - Alert), a renowned cybersecurity firm. This collaboration brings together Radware's DDoS detection and mitigation capabilities with Lightpath's robust infrastructure. The result? An intelligent defense system equipped to identify and neutralize even the most novel and complex DDoS attacks – including zero-day threats, those previously unseen in the wild.

LP DDoS Shield also employs behavioral-based analysis and Radware's global network to constantly learn and adapt. When a new attack pattern emerges, the system automatically generates countermeasures in real-time.

Furthermore, Lightpath's integrated network architecture eliminates the need for traffic rerouting during an attack. Unlike traditional solutions that rely on third-party scrubbing centers, LP DDoS Shield works within Lightpath's core network to help minimize latency and ensure uninterrupted business operations.

"At a time when DDoS attacks are increasing in size, scale, and sophistication, enhanced DDoS protection is fundamental to our commitment to providing customers with a solution for secure, reliable, and future-ready connectivity," said Tim Haverkate, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for Lightpath. "LP DDoS Shield dramatically improves the protections that we can offer our customers to help protect them against DDoS threats thanks to its advanced, dynamic technologies."

With 24/7 management by security experts, businesses can focus on their core operations while Lightpath safeguards their digital frontier.
