Pulumi's Multi-Cloud Solution Meets Enterprise Demands with IDP Boost

Internal Developer Portals, or IDPs, have changed the way developers interact with infrastructure with swift access to pre-approved infrastructure configurations. The pre-configured architectures guarantee consistency across projects and adherence to established best practices. By streamlining the provisioning process, IDPs let developers redirect their focus from intricate setup procedures to the actual coding and development tasks at hand.

IDPs also integrate automated testing functionalities. Doing this creates an environment where developers can efficiently identify and rectify issues early in the development cycle, thereby contributing to higher-quality software outcomes.

What’s the catch? Well, developers often must choose between using expensive, inflexible platforms or building resource-intensive in-house solutions. Until now.

Infrastructure as code provider Pulumi introduced Pulumi for Platform Teams, a set of capabilities that increase agility, compliance and security. It includes Pulumi Developer Portal for self-serve provisioning, a CNCF Backstage plugin, compliance-ready policies and remediation policies, for automatic adherence to organizational best practices.

The Pulumi Developer Portal delivers a self-serve experience for developers looking to deploy on Pulumi Cloud. Boasting advanced integration options with source control, CI/CD pipelines and customizable workflows through a REST API, the portal is accessible across all Pulumi Cloud offerings. Private template hosting, a feature available in the Enterprise and Business Critical editions, adds an extra layer of flexibility for platform teams.

The Pulumi Backstage Plugin is designed to integrate with existing self-serve portals. This plugin facilitates a cohesive experience by connecting the Pulumi Developer Portal with CNCF's backstage, allowing developers to navigate, provision and monitor infrastructure using both platforms. The plugin is readily available on the Backstage and Roadie Marketplaces.

As for compliance-ready policies, platform teams can leverage hundreds of Pulumi CrossGuard policies to automate adherence to compliance standards and best practices across major cloud providers and Kubernetes. The policies support a range of compliance frameworks such as PCI (News - Alert) DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and CIS. They eliminate the need for custom rule creation.

Pulumi’s Remediation Policies allow platform teams to author policies that automatically rectify configuration violations. This provides an additional layer of assurance for Business Critical customers with organization-wide configuration and enforcement capabilities in the open-source engine.

The company also announced the general availability of Pulumi Deployments for deployment orchestration.

Pulumi Deployments, with a 2,500% growth in Beta, is now accessible to Team Edition customers. Notable features include Git Push-to-deploy, ephemeral environments, UI-based triggers, and advanced deployment strategies. Enhancements cover OIDC configuration, Slack and Microsoft (News - Alert) Teams integration, GitHub Enterprise support, and self-hosted runners. The purpose of this solution is to streamline automated deployment workflows. It standardizes processes and eliminates the need for custom provisioning systems.

“When we spend time with our community, it’s clear that empowered platform teams are an absolute must,” said Joe Duffy, CEO of Pulumi. “Unfortunately, we see too many folks recreating the same wheel. The new Pulumi for Platform Teams capabilities help companies get up and running more quickly, with built-in security and reliability, allowing them to focus on unique business value with greater impact.”

The first 3,000 deploy minutes per month are free, and $0.010 per deploy minute thereafter. Custom pricing is available to Pulumi Enterprise and Business Critical customers.
