Veeam Software announced the launch of a new Splunk (News - Alert) extension designed for Veeam Data Platform customers to monitor the health and security status of their Veeam backup infrastructure. The offering uses Splunk’s robust analytics and monitoring capabilities and is available for free to organizations with Veeam Data Platform Advanced or Premium licenses.
Splunk customers gain access to comprehensive insights into Veeam events, backup environments, alerts, dashboards, and reports.
With 76% of organizations suffering ransomware attacks in the past year and 93% of those attacks targeting data backups, the need for robust security and monitoring solutions has never been more critical.
A Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) solution like Splunk can detect cyberthreats across all parts of an organization's system, including backups. This is essential for reducing risk and maintaining business continuity.
For security professionals, the ability to monitor their Veeam backup environments alongside other source environments, all within a single interface also helps in promptly identifying and mitigating potential threats.
Other key features of the app include:
- Built-in Dashboards: Monitor job statuses and security events daily.
- Reports and Alerts: Access built-in reports and alerts for proactive management.
- Severity Level Management: Customize severity levels for events and alerts to prioritize responses.
- Support for Multiple Servers and Data Sources: Manage multiple Veeam Backup & Replication servers and data source locations efficiently.
- Role-based Permissions: Assign permissions based on user roles and locations for secure management.
- App Configuration Backup: Ensure app settings are securely backed up.
“Now security professionals can use Splunk to closely monitor their Veeam backup environments through detailed dashboards, reports and alerts. Combatting cyber-attacks requires integration across your infrastructure, and the Veeam App for Splunk brings Veeam event data into Splunk, enabling customers to monitor security events like ransomware, accidental deletion, malware and other cyber threats using their current tools. It means enterprises can quickly and easily process vital monitoring and event data on their Veeam backup environments, in the same single pane of glass as other source environments they may be monitoring,” said John Jester, Chief Revenue Officer at Veeam.
