The importance of cloud cannot be understated. Over the past two years, businesses turned to the cloud to provide the connectivity needed propel remote workforce productivity.. However, the interest in cloud among IT companies continues reaching impressive levels.

According to a recent survey by MSP Expo Platinum sponsor HornetSecurity, 93% of more than 900 IT professionals in North America and Europe plan to adopt hybrid cloud setups over the next five years. More than half (51%) of the survey group stated company activity will be “mostly in the cloud” within the same period. Only a small portion of the survey group claimed minimal interest in cloud infrastructure, with 28% of participants stating workload will stay “mostly on premise”.

Although the majority of IT companies are interested in introducing cloud infrastructure and solutions, some participants expressed concerns about the complexity and various challenges of deployment. The survey discovered 48% of participants stated a lack of staff and technical expertise to migrate to the cloud. Some 29% also cited regulatory requirements (GDPR, HIPAA and CMMC, etc.) as an obstacle for cloud adoption.

When social distancing requirements started, some believed cloud support would be temporary. Executives soon realized many employees were more productive in remote/hybrid settings, inspiring companies to make remote permanent. But not every organization shares the feeling, especially due to security concerns. HornetSecurity’s survey found 34% of participants don’t fully trust public cloud infrastructure, especially among professionals with more than 20 years of experience.

While some IT companies have legitimate concerns about cloud adoption strategy, the vast majority seem to recognize the value.. As digital work activity continues to increase across the globe, we will likely see more businesses join in on the cloud revolution.
